At first glance that is what AVI Recomp seems like. Basically third party software for the bulk of its hard work. My biggest problem with the user interface is that it seems as if it was designed as the developers went along. It lacks a menu bar so its key functions are planted all over the interface like a scavenger hunt.
It opens up on to the file panels of the job panel where the user selects the input and output file. In the file source panel, there is an icon that leads you to local help documentation and resources. I wondered why it was planted here. It is however contextual because as soon as you click on it, it will lead you to the source topic in the help document.
The applications interface works around rotating panels and tabs. The only tabs that do not change are the Data panel on the right and the Applications panel at the bottom. The control panel tab displays the information about the three major backend components of the application. It also contains the about button that brings up the about screen.
Once again, I frown at this design choice. Supported formats include TMPlayer. Sophisticated watermarking options let you add your own images or logos to a file, and define everything from position, start time and duration, to fade in and fade out time, even alpha blending. And batch encoding options let you set up an entire folder full of files in minutes, then walk away and leave AVI ReComp to finish the job. AVI ReComp has a messy interface and is a little tricky to use, but its sheer weight of video tweaking options means the program is still worth a look.

I haven't seen anybody else comment, but since upgrading to the latest version I have had nothing but problems. Encodes are massively undersized, bad quality and when the program is running my PC becomes unsatble due to very high processor demands.
